This was an expansion of the existing Asir Power Plant, based on two Siemens V84.2 gas turbine generator units (around 70 MW site rating each), operating on distillate oil. Major balance of plant equipment included distillate oil tanks, fuel treatment, handling & forwarding systems, 132kV GIS extension, plant heating-ventilation-air-conditioning and firefighting systems. The scope of the project also included a dedicated distributed control system for the plant controls.

The main unit #9 reliability run was completed on July 14, 2005 (two weeks ahead of schedule).
